About

Fireside Collective is an organisation which provides skills and tools to create a more just and compassionate world through our everyday conversations and relationships. We are a small group of therapists, mental health professionals, educators and activists who provide resources, workshops and facilitation for groups and organisations. We are based in Wellington, Kāpiti and Taranaki.

We envision a world where all our innate compassionate values can flourish and be encouraged through our everyday interactions, and where we show up and challenge injustice with an attitude of compassion, reflection and solidarity.

Meet us

  • Jessie Anne Dennis

My experience lies in community activism, communication, facilitation, and campaigning, often on issues of climate justice or gendered violence prevention. I am now working on my doctorate in clinical psychology, where my research focuses on praxis which enacts collective and equitable understandings of trauma. I love working with my collaborators Gaayathri and Lenka as we share a deep passion for work in the intersections of individual and collective transformation that prioritises compassion, connection and solidarity. The seaside village of Ōhawe, south Taranaki, is currently home for me, my partner and my dog, where daily beach walks and runs keep me fueled through thesis writing and other mahi.

I am a counsellor currently working in private practice. Previously I have worked with women in prison and sex offenders in the community. I have over 15 years experience as a facilitator and in previous lives have worked in women’s rights advocacy and health promotion both in Aotearoa and abroad. I believe passionately in creating a world that works better for all people and that action is most powerful if compassion for self and others can sit at the centre of all that we do. I currently am working on putting down roots, literally and figuratively as I try and become a more competent gardener in Te Awakairangi (Lower Hutt) where I live with my partner. I am also a passionate knitter.

  • Lenka Rochford

I am a psychotherapist in private practice. My professional background is as a social worker specialising in sexual and domestic violence and group facilitation. I am passionate about social justice and have many years of involvement in grassroots activism. I know that it can be painful, exhausting and infuriating to care deeply about things that are extremely difficult to change. My hope for fireside collective is that we can support people to consciously integrate their thinking and their doing with their feeling. I have a partner, 4 children, 2 dogs and a cat and we live on the Kapiti coast in a state of perpetual chaos
